As is the case with every team in this division, the Diamondbacks should be in the thick of things in this division with their mix of quality hitting and stingy defense and pitching.

San Diego Padres

Currently

No team is hotter than the Padres have been lately, and the defending division champions appear to be rounding into the form that took them to the postseason in 2005. Despite ranking near the bottom in nearly every team-oriented offensive statistical category in the NL, the Padres are featuring several exciting young players every day including Josh Barfield and Khalil Greene. As those players continue to improve, the pitching staff has been holding the fort, ranking near the top of the NL in team ERA, K/BB, BAA and OPS.

Outlook

If the hitting improves, and old standbys like Trevor Hoffman and Woody Williams continue their early season success, the Padres will at the very least be in the fight in October.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Currently

The Dodgers, when breaking down statistics, are a difficult team to figure. There really aren’t any individuals having a huge year at this point, even though J. D. Drew appears to finally be living up to his promise. As a team, the Dodgers rank second in the NL in runs, RBIs and OBP. The pitching staff is just the opposite. As a team, the Dodgers are not near the top in any NL statistical category, but individuals such as Brett Tomko and Takashi Saito boast of ERAs right around 3.0.

Outlook

Predicting the Dodgers is as difficult as their statistics are to figure. The team, given the division, is certainly in the race, and if a few more individual hitters get hot and stay hot, the team can make a move towards the title.

San Francisco Giants

Currently

Despite all the attention these days being paid to Barry Bonds and his pursuit of the home run record, there are other Giants enjoying solid seasons. The team is right there with everyone else in the division, and the veteran influence on the team is telling. Moises Alou was off to a torrid start until recently being placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained ankle, and Steve Finley is also out of the gates with a flourish. Pitching has been a problem though, as the Giants are currently last in the NL in team ERA.

Outlook

It doesn’t look like anyone in this division will be out of it this season, and if the Giants can get improved pitching and a little less spotlight as the Barry Bonds chase subsides, this team could challenge, especially with a healthy Alou.

Since we primarily use Macintosh computers for all our work and only use PCs to check for compatibility, we thought we would pay homage to the brilliant Mac commercials running on television. The format worked for us because it allowed us to create two characters of our own that would present opposing points of view over a series of videos that would comprise the campaign. We knew that some people would react unfavorably to our using such a familiar format but we figured it would demonstrate how even small but talented production companies can deliver high quality multimedia Web-based marketing on tight budgets.

A Market Primed and Ready

Our efforts in advocating the power of using the human voice and image to deliver marketing stories over the Web was finally getting through to companies who were fed-up with the cost and ineffectiveness of continually chasing the holy grail of search engine optimization. Company presidents and marketing managers were starting to listen, starting to realize there was another way. This campaign was aimed at pushing these business executives to act on what they already knew: good marketing is about delivering the message, not keyword density.

Preproduction, Production, and Post Production

We wanted to make sure we had a distinctive sound by composing our own signature theme music and creating our own cast of characters with a distinctive message promoting the concept of multimedia. In fact these planned web-commercials really don't sell anything, all they do is make people aware that search engine optimization is not the only thing they should be thinking about when they are developing a website or webmedia campaign. In short, the medium was the message.

The use of Web-audio and Web-video is the best way to implement this kind of marketing presentation. We sat down and started to write and before we know it we had eighteen scripts each featuring a different issue in the search engine optimization versus multimedia controversy.

The next step was finding the right actors to play the part. Whereas Web-audio allows us to draw upon a vast number of voice talents across North American, video is much more limiting, especially if were wanted to keep the cost down to a reasonable amount. Even if we were prepared to blow the budget on actors, we knew our clients wouldn't, so it was important to demonstrate that we could get the job cast at a sensible cost. The casting proved to be an interesting exercise of frustration and humor. We had all types of applicants ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous to the outright bizarre, but ultimately we were able to find two fine young actors who understood exactly what we were doing and who took to the parts as if they were written specifically for them.

One of our greatest assets as a firm is that we do everything from concept to implementation, including writing, videoing, editing, graphic, motion, and website design; but if you want to produce a campaign at a sensible price you still have to be careful you don't write overly elaborate scripts that require multiple sets, locations or hard to acquire props. That said we still had to find a cute dog we could trust on set, links of various kinds of sausages, a hard to put together toy, and best of all a real straightjacket from an interesting website that specialized in rather strange items of clothing.

The shoot itself went extremely smoothly and we ended up shooting all eighteen videos in less than two days. We assumed some of the videos that looked good on paper just wouldn't translate to the screen, but to our surprise every one of the scripts worked. We knew what we wanted to say and weren't afraid to say it, even though we were flying in the face of conventional wisdom.

While Josh Bader our Director of Photography was digitizing, color correcting and editing the raw footage, Simon Bader our Director of Audio composed a number of theme music compositions to choose from for our signature sound. Once all the pieces were put together into a series of finished videos, we were ready to implement the campaign.

Implementation

The first set of six videos were uploaded to Google Video and YouTube as well as onto a webpage ( mrpwebmedia. com/ads/) that was created to house the full campaign of eventually eighteen videos, each presenting a different issue in the search engine optimization versus multimedia controversy. Versions of the videos were also used to create a Google Video Ad campaign.

DISASTERS-WHAT DID JESUS SAY?

(Luke 13:1-5)

What did Jesus say to do in a time of disaster? There were two disasters that The Lord talked about.

The first one was about those who lost their lives because of Pilate, and also those who lost their lives because the Tower of Siloam fell on them.

Jesus used these two instances, as an opportunity to teach those Galilaens about what their attitude should be in response to these disasters. We are now being faced with one disaster after another, and we need to learn what Jesus taught about the subject.

Jesus was quite clear in saying that those that were killed were not any worse sinners than the people that survived and lived. Jesus was saying to the people that when a terrible catastrophe occurs; it is a warning to all that survive the ordeal.

Jesus not only tells the people that they are no better than the ones that perished, but He goes a step further, and He tells them that they should repent or they also will perish.

When we see the disasters through the news reports; what do we do? First, and foremost; we repent of our own sins, and we turn to God. That is the most important response.

After that, we need to pray, and The Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us. Those that have matured in the Lord; the real sons and daughters of God are those who inquire of The Lord before they do anything.

They know that whatever they do; it is of small value unless it is in obedience and anointed by The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will show us how to pray and what to do.

Disasters are being televised in every area of the world today, and our first response is to humble ourselves, pray, seek God and turn from any and all of our own evil ways. It is a warning to us, and we must realize that it is only by the grace of God that we have not perished.

Repentance is a wonderful opportunity to be refreshed, renewed, and revived in The Lord. The Lord went about saying, “Repent for The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”.

Why did Jesus emphasis this point? Because we do not know when our time to die will come, but The Lord Jesus was warning us to always repent in order to be right with Him.

We are never to take our salvation for granted because we are told to “work out our own salvation with fear and trembling“, and also that “those who endure to the end will be saved”. We are told to “take heed when we think we stand; lest we fall”, and we are not to think more highly of ourselves than we should.

Presumption is something to be shunned. It is only by the grace of God that we will be saved, and all the works in the world will not usher us into The Throne of God.

Jesus preached repentance all of the time because He loved all of the people, and He didn't want even one person to perish without eternal salvation with Him. We here in these perilous times need to do the same.

Each new disaster and tragedy is an opportunity for repentance, refreshing, renewal and revival. When we do what Jesus taught us to do first, then we will be greatly effective

in whatever He leads us to do.

Jesus only did what The Father revealed for Him to do, and how much more should we only do as He directs. Let us put The Lord Jesus Christ in His rightful position as The Head and Lord of The Church, which is His Body.

Wet floor signs are a great way to protect yourself against costly lawsuits

Slips on wet and newly refinished floors is a million dollar industry in the United States for people in the law profession. If someone falls and gets hurt on your floors after you've either mopped them or refinished them and you don't have the area marked correctly with warning signs, there is a big chance that you will get sued and you will loose. Insurance companies and private industry loose millions of dollars every year because a wet floor was not marked with warning signs or wet floor cones. If someone does slip on your wet floors and the area is marked correctly with warning signs the court will usually side in your favor because you took the precautionary measures to let people know that they were entering a hazardous area. A good rule of thumb to remember when using wet floor signs is to make them visible from every direction that enters the area. If possible purchase wet floor signs with pictograms or pictures of a person falling. A picture can sometimes say a thousand words and with the multilingual barrier in the United State at least in court you can say there was a pictogram describing a hazardous situation. Wet floor signs come in many forms, there are wet floor cones, folding signs, wet floor barriers and caution tape. Most of these wet floor warning tools are colored in bright yellow or bright orange to make them highly visible.

Wet floor cones are probably the most economical way to mark a hazardous area. They can be used for many purposes as well as marking wet areas. When purchasing wet floor cones make sure to buy ones that are taller than any objects in the area that may block their view. The more pronounced your wet floor cones are, the less likely someone will not see them and slip and fall.

Wet floor signs that can fold in half are also a great way to mark a dangerous area. Folding wet floor signs unfold into an A shape which make them stable when put them into place. These folding signs mostly come in bright yellow and are very noticeable when entering a room. The warning text on some of these signs come in a bilingual format such as Spanish and English but other languages can be found.

Wet floor barriers and caution tape are my favorites as far as safety equipment is concerned. The best way to avoid a law suit regarding a hazardous floor is to block the area off completely until it is safe. Sometimes this is not possible in a main access area but if no one can enter the area then no one can get hurt. Mobile barriers are light weight and very visible and can be unfolded to cordon off a walkway.

After reviewing the types of safety signs that can be used in an area its easy to see how a company or individual can protect themselves against possible lawsuits. If somebody slips and falls on your flaw chances are you are going to be sued, after all your a big company and you have all the money in the world and they are the one suffering, at least that's how they will see it.

The best way to stop smoking

I am somebody who has managed to quit smoking, it took a lot of determination and will power, there were many periods where I was seemingly desperate and had mad cravings for just one last cigarette, however I was able somehow to resist. In this article, I will be giving some advice about how I managed to successfully stop this nasty and unhealthy habit, advice which I hope will help other people to also quit.

I had tried many times to stop smoking cigarettes and had always failed after only a few days. What I needed to do, was to try to work out why these previous attempts had failed and to hopefully learn from my mistakes. In my new quest to stop smoking, I would need to have a whole new approach from any that I have had in the past, an approach which may result in success rather than the normal failure.

I decided that I would only try again to stop smoking, when my life was in what I classed as a good period. I am the kind of person who easily becomes stressed and I can make the slightest problem seem like the biggest disaster. When I feel that things are not going well in my life, cigarettes become like my friend. At least I have something to look forward to do in that day, smoking. When I am doing well and am happy, I have far less of a need to smoke, therefore this will be the type of period, when I will start yet again to quit the fags.

When attempting to stop smoking in the past, I have always told everybody. This is a big mistake as to quit it is important that you stop thinking about cigarettes completely. When you are constantly being asked about how you are finding giving up the cigarettes, it is like a constant reminder to you. By going about it in a quiet way, maybe only telling your closest family members and friends, makes it a whole lot easier.

As well as quitting smoking, I also decided to seriously reduce my intake of alcohol. When I had failed in the past, it was normally because I had been drunk and could no longer bat away the voices in my head that were telling me to smoke. The alcohol weakened my resolve and increased the amount and severity of the cravings. It was important therefore to massively reduce the amount of alcohol that I was drinking.

Another reason why I had failed in my previous attempts to quit smoking, was possibly due to spending too much time with other people who smoked. I decided that in this new quest, I would attempt to stay away from other smokers as much as I could. This was not that easy as quite a lot of my friends are smokers. I had to be determined and make sacrifices. What I am attempting to do could have a very positive affect on my life, I therefore have to have the courage to do everything in my power that I think will help to lead to a successful conclusion.

I hope this article acts as an inspiration for other people to stop smoking.

Volvo has safety written all over it

Volvos are known for being extremely safe cars. They are so safe, in fact, that Volvo has started a “Volvo Saved My Life” Club. This club recounts the many moments in which Volvo drivers have been saved by the safety features of these amazing vehicles.

The Volvo v70 and Volvo s70 comes with standard with numerous safety features that you don’t want to miss out on. These safety features may be what put you in Volvo’s special club.

The Volvo line of cars begins with the Safety-Cage Passenger Compartment. This feature is complete with front and rear crumple zones that are able to dissipate and distribute the collision force. This reduces the physical strain on the car’s passengers. There are also roof pillars and transverse roof profiles that would prevent the car caving in should it roll. The side collision impact system also distributes the force of a collision to the side of a car.

The second feature is the Side-Impact Protection System. This reduces injuries in the event of a side impact. The car’s body is designed to reduce the deformation that occurs to a car when hit form the side.

In many front-end collisions, individuals are often harmed by the steering shaft. In a Volvo s70 you will find a collapsible steering column that is designed to prevent the penetration of the steering column into the vehicle’s cabin.

These are just a few safety features that are found in the Volvo s70 and Volvo v70, but there are many more additional features that may be found in each car as well.

Achieving impossible goals

Don't pay too much attention to the experts. They told the Beatles that the time for a guitar group had passed! At least one of them, Paul McCartney, is still going strong. He played at half-time at the Superbowl in 2005. Not bad for someone whose time had passed.

Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with motor neurone disease at the age of 21. He was given two years to live. He went on to get married and have three children and became one of the greatest theoretical physicists that the world has ever known.

He is now Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge – the position once held by Sir Isaac Newton. At least 40 years have passed since he was supposed to have died.

Recently in the UK some mothers have been released from jail. They had spent years of sheer hell in prison for allegedly killing their own children.

The evidence against them provided by a leading 'expert' has been shown to be faulty. They are now free but their lives have probably been destroyed irreparably.

The expert has not even been sacked from his job.

The experts probably told Sir Ranulph Fiennes that running 7 marathons in 7 days soon after a massive heart attack was not a good idea. He did it anyway.

Sir Ranulph, who was described as the world's greatest explorer in 1984 in the Guinness book of records, has the self-confidence to ignore the experts.

Sir Ranulph now plans to climb Everest by the difficult route. The experts are probably not bothering to tell him that a man with a heart condition should not try to pass the 'death zone' on Everest where oxygen is in short supply.

Sir Ranulph is not too concerned. He believes that, If you plan meticulously and take the right person and the best kit and accept the fact that luck is an element, you will do alright.

Recently Anthony Smith, a 78 year old UK pensioner, has asked for three volunteers over the age of 65, to accompany him on a raft made of gas pipes across the Atlantic.

Two of the gas pipes will be sealed full of air to provide buoyancy and the others will be filled with water for drinking and washing.

A woman of 24 volunteered for the voyage, despite the request for male applicants over 65. Her application was reluctantly rejected.

Anthony may or may not succeed but he has probably already had a boat load of experts telling him not to set sail. I have a feeling they may be right in this case!

I, for one, will not be volunteering to accompany him. Like Nelson, I suffer badly from sea sickness and can't swim too well!

An expert told me, many years ago, that I was making a fuss after I had a minor operation on my toe. I was in severe pain for two or three days. My mother did not believe the expert's assessment and eventually removed the bandage. My toe was black with gangrene.

The bandage, put on by another 'expert', had been too tight. I could have lost both my leg and my life if my mother had paid too much respect to the experts.

Frank Garon, the internet guru and philosopher, makes the key point that there are more than enough experts and critics to go around. We don't need to become our own critic.

"The rest of the world will do the job, of trying to shoot you down, for you. You don't need to do it yourself. You have to be your own cheerleader and your own biggest fan. Not your biggest enemy, and my fear is that maybe you don't cheer yourself on enough or give yourself enough credit or enough of a chance."

Obviously one should at least listen to the experts. Many of them do know what they are doing and could save your life or your money.

After all, an expert, Dr. Mike Stroud, accompanied Ranulph Fiennes on his marathon runs and great polar expeditions.

However, we should not automatically assume that experts are always right. Some of them are spectacularly wrong.

If there is one thing all non-profit organizations need, it's more funding! Everything from rent to uniforms to postage for your newsletter are going up, up, up. And there's always one more piece of expensive equipment you needed yesterday.

Visitors can range from a few dozen each day to thousands. I'm willing to bet the actual number of visitors you're getting is higher than your first guess.

So what's my point? There's money in all those visitors! People who visit non-profit web sites are almost always far more motivated than the visitors most other sites get. YOU stand for a cause, for doing good things in your community. People who are attracted to your organization or appreciate your good work arrive on your site interested, motivated, and ready to help.

Surprisingly, all you really have to do is ASK visitors for their assistance and you'll get it.

Here's a simple idea that is raising large amounts of cash for non-profits without anyone doing any additional work. Sign your organization up for a few quality affiliate programs. These are agreements where you put a company's banner or link on your site and possibly in your email. When a visitor buys through your link, you get a commission.

Unlike the commissions you get selling unbreakable combs, cookies, and the like -- affiliate commissions can be 25% or more of the sales price, and those prices can be quite high. The most powerful affiliate programs are those which pay you month after month. You make one sale and get paid over and over. This unique feature often creates years of contributions from just one sale!

Recently companies are realizing just how large the non-profit market is and they're creating programs especially for them. Your site and email can lead your fans to attractive services that sell at a brisk pace. Indeed, you can be a hero to your visitors while literally pulling in funds around the clock. And all this with NO additional work on your part.
