Dieting i can t afford to lose weight

We are so eager to lose weight that we swallow the promises of every diet guru on the planet and eagerly plunk down our hard earned cash, praying that this time it will work.

What are the costs of the popular diets? The initial cost is to buy the “Bible” for the diet or join the program. Those initial fees range from $20 or $30 for a book to several hundred dollars for a personal program.

Then there’s the food. Studies have shown that the average cost of a week’s food purchases, per individual, is slightly above $50. To start the South Beach Diet, tack on an additional $25 per week. For the Zone and Weight Watchers Diets, the additional cost is about $40, for Atkins $50, for NutriSystems almost $60 and for Jenny Craig about $85!

Wait a minute, you say. I’m losing weight by cutting back on eating. Shouldn’t that SAVE me money?

Looking at it logically, you would certainly think so. But we don’t try to lose weight logically, we approach the whole process through our emotions. It is our emotions that lead us to buy things on impulse, to sign up for programs we know we’ll never complete, and to join projects we’ll never actively pursue.

Our emotional thinking is our weakness and it has nothing to do with intelligence or education or social level. We all get suckered into scams at some point in our lives and we all occasionally suffer from buyer’s remorse – it’s a part of the human experience.

The marketers and ad men know it well and spend their days devising tricks for which we all too often fall. How often have you eagerly dialed an 800 number during one of those brilliant infomercials only to receive something that doesn’t work as it did on TV, is either shoddily made or just too complicated, and you stick it in the back of a cupboard where it gathers dust until you finally toss it?

When it comes to our weight, our emotions reign supreme. We so desperately want to be more attractive, more respected, and more desirable. We will even subject ourselves to painful and sometimes dangerous surgery to bring our reality closer to our ideal. And we will rob our piggy banks, deplete our bank accounts, and run up our credit cards for anything that promises us a slender future.

Do we get what we pay for? Sometimes. There are a few successful disciples in every program. It is their pictures and stories that are prominently displayed in promotional literature. It is the old “before” and “after” trick that sucks us in. Our logic (and a tiny footnote) tells us that the featured results are not typical.

The wary left side of our brain wonders if a little airbrushing might have been employed. Then the right side explodes, filled with desire, well-meaning intentions, and an overwhelming urge to believe. And we fall for it again.

Notice that we never hear or see about the failures, the hundreds of thousands who start a diet with such high hopes yet live the rest of their lives overweight. All the diets have their failures but never bother to mention exactly what their percentages are. They may caution that their program must be followed exactly if it is to work, but let’s be realistic. How many of us can follow an unswerving routine for the weeks, months, or years it is going to take to reach our ideal weight? We may be creatures of habit but life seldom fits into one unsquishable box for very long. We adapt the routine to meet our immediate needs and everything falls apart.

Sadder, wiser, guilt-ridden and self-critical, we vow to start again until, eventually, we give up. Is there a better way?

We can start by realizing that it really doesn’t matter what diet we choose. The secret is to address our emotions, that infatuation with food that has, nationally, reached crisis proportions. We have to break off our affair with what we eat and restore food to its rightful place – something that keeps us alive and healthy, not our primary source of excitement and self-satisfaction.

Bill learns the secret hidden locked away super duper traffic creating power of new blog farm

Someone posted a comment on one of my articles at EzineArticles that I had written concerning the need to have a Wordpress blog. The point made was that whether you have a Wordpress blog or one of the other types of blogs, you still have to have traffic.

Now, traffic is a part of the formula that is necessary for the success of your Internet business. Without traffic you will have no sales. Without sales, you have no Internet business.

In this article I will talk about how to get links to your newly created Wordpress blog. You see, if you just bought a brand new domain and created a Wordpress blog on that domain you will not get any traffic unless you have links pointing to your blog. Remember, "no links equals no traffic". Let me say it another way, you have got to get links pointing to your site or you will not succeed!

These links should be of the highest quality. If you get 25 links from sites that are not authority sites it will not do you much good. It would be much better to get 5 links from sites that have good page rank and are closely matched to the theme of your blog.

There are two ways to get these types of links. First, you can research the web and find high quality sites that are theme related to your theme and contact them asking for links to your site. Good luck with that, why would they want to link to your new page rank zero site?

I suggest that you build a "Blog Farm". Your own blog farm has one distinct advantage of being under your complete control. Instead of having to go begging for links, you will have the ability to add a link from your blog farm to your new Wordpress blog yourself. As a matter of fact, you will have the power to add a link to "any" new blog that you create in the future.

What happens is the link to your new Wordpress blog draws the search engine spiders which is necessary in order for your blog to be listed in the major search engines, which are Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

I will go over the specifics of exactly "how" to construct a blog farm in my next article.

911 internet savvy for parent s part i

The internet could be considered an entry into a brave new world for this millennium. To be successful in this world you must have access and knowledge of how to use the internet. Children that are able to use the internet will be better prepared for high school, college and the job market.

Lawrence J. Magid of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children states, “millions of people are now going online to exchange electronic mail (E-mail) and instant messages; participate in chat groups; post and read messages in newsgroups, which are sometimes called bulletin boards; “surf” the world wide web; and many other online activities. Children are no exception in fact they are more likely to be online than adults.” The internet is a powerful, educational learning tool that can also be extremely dangerous for children.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006, Austin American - Statesman reported that a teenagers , mother was suing MySpace. com for $30 million the suit filed in Travis County claims popular Internet site fails to protect children from adult sexual predators. The lawsuit includes news reports of other assault cases in which girls were contacted through MySpace. The real question here is should MySpace be held responsible for the safety of your child or is that your job.

MySpace is not the only social networking website just the largest boasting a membership of 70-80 million users, Bebo ranks 2nd with a membership of 23million users and other popular teen sites include WeeWorld. com, Friendster. com, Tagged. com, Xanga. com and Orkut. com. An article published on June 4, 2006 in Fairfield New Zealand Ltd., Stuff on, “Social Networking Websites Target NZ Teens in Turf Battle” by Kent Atkinson asserts that, children flock online to hang out with friends, express their hopes and dreams and bare their souls with often painful honesty – mostly unbeknownst to their tech-clumsy parents.

All of theses incident have occurred within the last couple of months. There are so many safety features on the internet for parents to use that these incidents should not have happened. You would not send you child outside to play on a busy freeway because it is dangerous, well so is the internet. Parents are going to have to accept the responsibility of monitoring their child’s usage on the internet. There are many tools to help the novice internet users and the expert internet users monitor there children.

INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS WITH PARENTAL CONTROLS

AOL Parental Controls

Monitor online activity with AOL® Guardian

Opt for AOL® Guardian "report cards" that show your kids' Web surfing, e-mail and IM activity.

Limit their online time

Monitor how long your kids are online. Set controls by day, time of day or session length.

Approve e-mail contacts

Help your kids' communicate with friends by creating a list of approved e-mail addresses.

Manage settings away from home

Manage Parental Controls remotely via AOL. com. You don't have to be there to monitor your kids' activity and Internet safety on AOL.

Limit access to other software, too

Prevent your kids from viewing inappropriate web content on an external browser (like Microsoft® Internet Explorer) and block other Internet applications outside AOL.

Earthlink, Parental Controls

Web Blocking and Filtering

Limit your child's Web surfing to EarthLink's list of more than 15,000 kid-friendly Web sites, or let your kids visit all Web sites except for the 3 million sites that EarthLink has blocked. You can also create your own lists of approved and blocked Web sites. Even if a site is not specifically blocked by you or EarthLink, Parental Controls can automatically check the language on all Web pages your child visits and remove inappropriate language before displaying them. If the number of inappropriate words on a Web page is excessive, Parental Controls blocks the site completely.

CyberFriends

CyberFriends are the people you allow your child to communicate with online. You create a list of approved pals—friends and family—so that you don't have to worry about your child being bothered by strangers. You can also define which features of the CyberFriends Communicator (email, chat, bulletin boards, instant messaging, etc.) your child can use.

Email Screening

If someone who is not a CyberFriend sends email to your child, Parental Controls locks that email so that you can review it first. You can then unlock the message so your child to see it, or simply delete it. Parental Controls also locks email that your child sends to non-CyberFriends; you can either unlock or delete those emails, too.

Time Limits

If you're concerned about your child spending too much time online, you can restrict the hours per day, week, or month that your child can use the Internet.

SBC Yahoo Parental Controls

Parental controls to help you exercise control over the content your children can view on the Internet

AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Parental Controls

Software allows you to control your child’s time spent online, access to web sites, email addresses, and more. It even sends weekly report cards.

JUNO

Norton Parental Control Blocks access to Web sites and newsgroups that you consider unsuitable for children. It provides you with an option to set up different Internet access privileges for each person in your household and limit their browsing capabilities.

The list above represents ISP companies that specifically address parental controls. There are many Internet Service Providers that may have parental control check with your service provider to see if available to you.

SEARCH ENGINES WITH FILTERS

Google’s SafeSearch

Many users prefer not to have adult sites included in search results (especially if their kids use the same computer). Google's SafeSearch screens for sites that contain explicit sexual content and deletes them from your search results. No filter is 100% accurate, but SafeSearch should eliminate most inappropriate material.

You can choose from among three SafeSearch settings:

• Moderate filtering excludes most explicit images from Google Image Search results but doesn’t filter ordinary web search results. This is your default SafeSearch setting; you’ll receive moderate filtering unless you change it.

• Strict filtering applies SafeSearch filtering to all your search results (i. e., both image search and ordinary web search).

• No Filtering, as you’ve probably figured out, turns off SafeSearch filtering completely.

Yahoo! Family Account

Yahoo! Family Account is a free account that allows you to control the information your child shares with Yahoo! and to maintain and monitor their account on an ongoing basis. With your Yahoo! Family Account, you can:

• Create separate Yahoo! IDs for each child under 13 in your family.

• Modify your child's account information and other information stored on Yahoo!.

• Modify your child's Yahoo! Mail Block List and Yahoo! Messenger Friend List and Ignore List.

• Sign in as your child to modify any aspect of their account.

• Protect your child from accessing certain age-restricted areas of Yahoo!.

Yahoo! Family Accounts also offers a set of resources to help your family learn to safely surf the Web.

Children’s Search Engines

These search engines are designed specifically for children and have built in filters.

YAHOOLIGANS

PEACHPOD

ASK FOR KIDS

KIDS CLICK

The only way that you can be sure that your child is safe on the internet is to monitor your child’s activities. You must spend as much time reviewing and checking your child’s internet surfing as you would teaching your child to hit a baseball. Surfing the internet safely is a skill that you will have to teach your child, it may also be a learning opportunity for you.

Freedom of speech

Freedom of speech in mass media must be considered one of the major achievements of our modern age alongside with Internet and latest discoveries in medicine. We have a precious chance of making our judgments based on different points of view presented in various informational sources.

A struggle for freedom of speech starts from the ancient times. The tradition of freedom of speech came to us from Greece. Greeks cultivated freedom of speech and held special forums, where famous orators performed and people could have their say. People always longed to be free of any obligations and formalities, built up by a state, but even now there are limits to the freedom given to mass media that are considered the speakers of the public. Some journalists and politicians consider censure to be illegal and try to limit the censure percentage. According to the last data provided by CNN, the level of censure varies from 80% till 10% depending on the level of prosperity and political situation in the country. Freedom of speech is just a formality in countries where the communist party is the only political force in power. Everything that is opposing to the main ideas and principles of the party is blocked by censure. But in the developed countries of the west of Europe it is easy to pass the censure and provide the information for publishing or issuing.

Censure now covers only items and matters that contain strong language, provocations, violence and other things that influence the outlook of the citizens. There are quite different attitudes towards censure. Some consider that it helps to refine the media from the dirty influence. Others consider that it limits freedom of speech and freedom of choice. Most probably without reasonable censure freedom of speech might turn into a total chaos.

Security and your garage door opener remote

You'd be right to be concerned about security with your wireless garage door opener and remote. An intruder can gain access to your garage contents, or even your home if you don't follow some simple security steps.

Different radio frequencies are used for communication between the remote and the opener. Tiny switches known as dip switches are used to adjust the frequency used between the two. It is a wise idea to reconfigure the dip switch settings to make sure your garage more secure.

A dip switch is a small block of plastic about the size of a dice cut in half. They are usually colored blue or red with 8 to 10 tiny white switch levers positioned up or down. Only when the up / down switch patterns match on both devices will your garage door opener remote control be able to communicate with the opener unit. By adjusting the switch pattern, you are changing the radio frequency used to communicate between the two.

You should be able to easily locate the dip switch on the opener and on the remote control clicker. But to get access to the dip switch on the remote you might need to open it up if the dip switch isn't found in the battery compartment. Remove the screws holding the remote together, or carefully pry it apart if there are no screws. Once you have access to the dip switch on the remote, scramble the switch positions, and then match the positions on the openers dip switch block. It does not matter what the pattern looks like, so long as its a random pattern that would be difficult for someone to guess.

If you have trouble getting the remote to work after doing this, verify that the dip switch patterns are the same on both units. Then check the remote battery is in good condition, and as usual, make sure the opener has power, and operates normally using the control panel inside your garage. You might have to read the manual if all else fails.

If you are thinking of getting a new garage door opener or have already gotten one, then you will want to change settings, just to make sure everyone is honest. Don't forget, your installer or anyone working with him knows your frequency switch settings unless you change them. So go ahead and mix up the switch pattern settings and test that it works.

Even if you are a garage door opener installation do-it-yourself type, you'll want to make the same changes. Don't just stay with the factory default settings. If you did, then anyone could just drive down your street with a compatible remote until he finds a door that opens and gives access to your home. Make sure that's not you.

This advise also applies to anyone buying or renting a new home too. Just like you might change the lock to guarantee there are no spare keys floating around that could compromise your home security. You have no way of knowing how many previous residence there might have been. And you wouldn't want someone to just walk right into your garage or home.

This is very different to the habits of your average backpacker, if there is such a thing as an average backpacker. Emergency Medical Cover. This will provide financial cover for any costs you have to make in the event that you need medical attention.

Holiday Cancellation. If due to unforeseen circumstances you have to cancel your trip early, you will be compensated for any monies lost.

Notebook buying tips

Why notebook became so popular? It has been estimated that notebook sales has increased an average of 20% per year in the United States alone. Among the many advantages it offers, portability is one of the main reason people end up making a purchase of it. However before any purchase is made, other features should be considered as well.

Notebook was first made available in the early eighties. Although much heavier and bulkier than today's notebooks, it had the unique portability feature that put this innovative product in a class by itself. Although not much of a commercial success then, it gave the computer industry a goal to pursue in manufacturing this item with better weight, size and performance ratio and making one of today's most wanted computer hardware.

Notebook size has got much smaller, however big enough to make one feel very comfortable in handling and operating computer related tasks. One can find it in sizes best categorized as: 1 - Tablet Pc has the size of paper tablet and weighs no more than 4 pounds; 2 - Ultra Portable is a little bigger than Tablet Pc and weighs around 4 pounds, no internal CD or DVD drive, display of 12 inches or smaller; 3 - Thin and Light is a mid-size notebook, 10-14" x 10", 1 to 1.5 thick, and weighs around 7 pounds, wireless network capability, 14-inch displays, combo CD-RW/DVD; 4 - Desktop replacement is the largest category of notebooks, more than 12 x 10" and weighs more than 7 pounds, 15-17 inches displays or larger, wireless network capability, combo CD-RW/DV.

Also an important feature one should look for is performance. Notebooks provide very close performance in comparison with traditional desktop computers, and should handle all computer related tasks with great ease. Whenever purchasing a notebook, make sure it has the latest cpu model, large ram memory and hard disk space. Notebook performance is directly related with cpu clock, ram memory and hard disk space. For these items, big is never enough.

Another feature one should look for is the dvd player. It can come in handy for entertainment purposes, enabling one to watch movies while traveling. Wireless connection is also a feature to look for in a notebook. Some notebooks feature an infrared port, which can be used to connect a mobile phone. Also there are other wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which allows mobile phone, printers and PDA to be connected at certified public and private network. The ability to have a mobile connection is definitely a plus in today's connected world.

Expansion capability for notebooks can be done thru the use of plug-in pc cards. Although there is a new standard called ExpressCard, which is smaller and faster plug-in card that provides more features for multimedia tasks.

Notebooks have certainly become an item required for one's mobile computer related tasks, whether it is used for public, private, personal or professional purposes. Its portability and small size make an attractive all around computer hardware item. For those looking for mobile computer hardware, notebooks can certainly become a good solution at affordable prices.

Vaccinations and your dog

Although your new puppy will likely squirm and maybe even cry when getting his shots, it is just as important for your dog as it is for your children or yourself. In fact, by keeping up on your dog’s vaccinations, you could be saving his life.

Vaccinations are injections of a small dose of a disease, which will prevent your puppy from developing that very disease. Just like immunizations in children, it is required by health departments and is the right thing to do for your dog.

Two different types of vaccinations exist. They are a Killed Vaccine and a Modified Live Vaccine. A Modified Live Vaccine is the live disease being injected, while having been altered by the drug company to be unable to cause the disease it is protecting against. A Killed Vaccine is when the virus itself has been killed before any injection occurs.

Once vaccinations are given, your dog’s immune system will recognize the presence of a disease and will then create barriers or reinforcements (antibodies) to fight it off, should it appear. These barriers only last from six months to a year, which makes regular appointments extremely important for your dog.

A few of the more commonly heard of diseases that affect dogs are often at the top of a vaccination list. These include: Canine Distemper, Infectious Hepatitis, Rabies and Corona Virus.

Regular vaccinations can prevent your dog from contracting these diseases; however you should still be aware of what they are. Canine Distemper is caused by a virus that attacks the body and can be damaging to the dogs central nervous system. 50 percent of dogs who contract this disease will have a fatal outcome. It mainly affects middle aged dogs. Puppies and older dogs are usually safe from contracting it.

Another vaccination, which is important to your dog’s health and should not be confused with the human disease, Hepatitis is Infectious Hepatitis, which is a life threatening viral disease. It is transmitted through urine, saliva and feces. All ages of dogs are at risk for this disease. Luckily, it’s not contagious to humans.

Vaccinations for Rabies are probably the most commonly talked about vaccine. The disease itself is the most well known in animals and can quickly affect humans through saliva and bites. Aggression, excessive salivation and erratic behavior will follow the onset of rabies, although it may not be as clear as “Cujo”, the famous rabid-infected dog in the movies.

Another disease that is commonly confused and is important to have vaccinations for is Corona Virus. This disease affects young dogs and is usually mixed up with Parvo, which is a totally different type of disease. Corona Virus is contagious and is passed through feces ingested by another dog, causing trouble with the intestinal system. This disease is usually treatable before Parvo sets in.

As you can see, there are many diseases that can affect, sicken, or even kill your precious family member. Vaccinations are extremely important to yours and your dog’s health and it is your responsibility as a dog owner to have regular visits with the vet. For all the happiness he brings to you and your family, he deserves to be healthy.

Watching the detectives investigate history

There's good news for anyone with a bit of memorabilia-such as an old map or photo-that has left them with more questions than answers.

A critically acclaimed television show about to enter its fourth season asks viewers to submit story ideas. The show-PBS' "History Detectives"-applies the latest forensic technology and old-fashioned, pavement-pounding detective work to lift the lid on intriguing artifacts and objects, family legends and local folklore in cities and small towns across America.

Because it uses cutting-edge technology to uncover the history behind homes and heirlooms, the show has been described as "CSI" meets "Antiques Roadshow." Rather than assigning a monetary value, this show traces and verifies the lineage of beloved objects and places.

Each one-hour episode of this PBS series examines three compelling attempts to uncover the truth behind a bit of history that we think we know.

In the past the show has investigated topics ranging from interesting trivia about the possible inspiration of one of America's best-loved animated characters, to shocking revelations about illustrations that may have helped persuade America to fight the Nazis in World War II.

The show's fourth season is now in production and its producers are asking viewers to submit story ideas. There are no age restrictions on who can submit an idea, and it can come from an individual or a group, such as a family or school class.

The main rule for the submission is that there has to be a tangible physical item, such as a map, photo or family keepsake, that ties the story together.

The producers emphasize that they are interested in both historical items, such as deeds, weapons or portraits, and items with more of a pop-culture bent.

For example, one of the more popular segments during the show's third season was an investigation of a toy collector's figurine of a mouse that some say was the inspiration behind the Mickey Mouse character.

Another segment focused on a map of a World War I battlefield that offered detailed warnings about what to do in case of a gas attack. In addition to being a relic of a key battle where U. S. soldiers routed the enemy, the document induced the investigators to delve into the origins of chemical warfare.

Best ways to bring traffic to your blog

Now that everyone and his little sister have a blog, it is definitely time to figure out how to move traffic to YOURS. With so many different blogs to choose from, it is easy for your typical, run-of-the-mill blog to become a needle in a haystack. How can you make your blog the beach ball in the haystack? Read on to discover 10 ways to get traffic to your blog (if only there were another word for blog, blog, blog…).

1. Write posts people desire to read. Although this seems obvious, taking a quick look around many blogs you will find thousands upon thousands with too much personal information and not enough useful information. Do people really want to read about your cat? Or better yet, do you really want to attract the kind of people who want to read about your cat? Create timeless, conversational posts about relevant topics. Consider what you would want to read and write that!

2. Become THE expert on your topic. Research and stay current on your blog’s topic. If readers believe you have information and musings on the latest and greatest, they will come to you first. People do not want old news rehashed. They want to be informed of something new and cutting-edge.

3. Utilize Search Engine Optimization. Learn all you can about SEO, and use it for your blog much like you would use it to optimize a website. This means, place keywords in the URL to your blog, the title of your post, the body of your post, and within your post text links.

4. Don’t make your blogs too much like an advertisement. Readers feel used and abused when they visit a site thinking they will find useful information only to discover they are reading a blatant advertisement for some product or service. By making yourself an expert and providing thoughtful and thorough information, you are going to peak the interest of readers and make them WANT to learn more about your product.

5. Create some drama, controversy, and BUZZ. People love wars of words, some controversy here and there. It creates wanted buzz and develops readers who will return to your blog just to see if anything is brewing. Always allow comments on your blogs, and post comments on other blogs that will cause readers to want to visit your blog to see what you are all about.

6. Send notification of blog-updates via e-mail. For those potential readers who are not going to seek out a blog post, e-mail is a great way to reel them in. Use a free blog service or an auto-responder to invite readers and manage your reader list.

7. Of course, submit your blog to every search engine!

8. Make sure the link to your blog is on every piece of written communication you send. Include the link in your newsletters, brochures, business cards, in your e-mail signature, and in every post you make on various forums.

9. Turn your blog into an article. Create blog entries that can be easily adapted into articles, and place them in online article directories along with the link to your blog.

10. Blog often. You want people to know they can expect a blog from you daily or weekly. If you are inconsistent or rarely post a blog, it is difficult to develop a reader-base. Set a goal for your writing and stick to it.

Learning how to play tennis

Anyone who is considering tennis training will be happy to know that there are plenty of ways to learn how to play the game. Every way from the tennis court to the internet, the video store and even the classroom will prove to be beneficial for those wanting to learn how to play the great game of tennis. Prices will vary depending on the type of training method that is chosen, but can often be quite affordable. This is especially true of those who opt for learning at home through the use of videos or internet lessons. A professional tennis trainer, however, will likely be the most expensive way to learn but will provide a hands-on experience that none of the aforementioned options can.

If you choose to hire a tennis instructor, you will probably want to hire someone who has a lot of experience in either teaching or playing tennis. Or, if possible, find someone who has done both. During this training, you will begin to learn the various swings and in which situation each can be used. In the beginning, tennis may seem intimidating because of the physical activity that is involved, along with the need to have a very fast reaction to every situation. But, after a few lessons, you will be more familiar with the game and how to play it. Patience is the key to learning anything new and tennis is no different.

Even prior to hiring an instructor, some new tennis players may decide to learn some basics of the game before beginning the actual lessons. This can be accomplished by either purchasing books, videos or doing some research online. Either of these methods should provide an introduction to the game, the proper way to grip and swing the tennis racket, etc. With this information, any new tennis player will enter their learning phase with added confidence and will impress their instructor by how much they already know. Not to mention, anything that you can learn beforehand may end up saving you some money on the actual lessons.

With that being said, it’s important to know that there is nothing wrong with taking tennis lessons if you are a true beginner. Even if you have never held a tennis racket or held a tennis ball before, there is nothing to fear. Tennis instructors are there to help you to learn from scratch if that’s what you need. During your lessons, it will always be a good idea to have access to a tennis court and possibly even practice a little in between lessons.

Many tennis instructors work one-on-one with their students, while others prefer to educate to a group of individuals. Those who prefer to learn as much as possible, but without doing so with hands-on training may opt for online lessons. The only drawback is that this method does not provide actual practice, which can be sought separately by the learner. Friends and family can often provide valuable insight in helping one to learning how to play tennis without professional instruction.

Can antioxidants improve skin care

For most issues related to teenagers, fads rule the roost. And skin care issues are highest among teenagers. Today any medium, be it magazines, newspapers, television or the Internet are inundated with skin care related articles. These articles could include various therapies and homemade solutions for skin care. Ranging from the totally natural to those which involve chemicals, these articles provide the reader with the much needed solutions to their skin related problems.

These days, the latest craze in skin care regimes is natural antioxidant skin care. The belief that is being popularized these days is that the more natural the product being used the more effective and devoid of side effects it will be. This concept has a strong historical background since it is a known fact that queens and princesses of the ages gone by used natural extracts of plants like hibiscus and olive to keep their skin glowing and youthful. Over time, man has processed these very elements and made them available to the common man in the form of tubes, bottles and cans containing moisturizers, creams, shampoos and anti-aging gels. These contain the richness of the abundant health secrets hidden in the flora and fauna of the jungles. The only difference is that they are more likely to have been processed in a research laboratory and tested before being presented to you for use.

These distilled ingredients used to a healthy body are being called nutriceuticals at large. This new addition to the dictionary is made up of the words ‘nutrients’ and pharmaceutical’.

Most companies which make skin care related products tout the goodness of antioxidants and natural products that contain antioxidants. An antioxidant is something that destroys the harmful oxygen free radicals. These free radicals could be a product of normal functioning of the body or could be generated due to external factors like ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Though the concept of free radicals is extremely complicated to explain, suffice it to know that these radicals can be harmful and can result in mutation in genes. Mutation can lead to skin cancer and make the individual incapable of repairing the damage done to the skin. With antioxidants we can limit the number of free radicals in our system, thereby ensuring that we not only keep our skin supple and glowing but also healthy. This wonderful discovery of how antioxidants can work to negate the effect of free radicals had led to fantastic products which can help in tackling issues related to ageing skin. Problems like wrinkles, spots, pigmentation and small growths can be resolved with increasing the amount of antioxidants in your diet and oral application of antioxidant concentrates.

How to use free articles on your website or blog

You’ve typed and clicked and dragged and dropped, and your website or blog is ready to go. Your visitors are happy, they click your links and go from page to page. You get great feedback, but the more you do, the more they want from you. How can you keep your visitors interested, and informed, so that they keep coming back?

Content! You need content! If you are descended from Charles Dickens, Emily Dickinson, and Albert Einstein, you can probably write it all yourself in your sleep. But if you are like the rest of us, you could use a little help.

That’s where free articles can help. You can get free articles for your web pages, and use the content to add to your site in seconds. The only thing the author asks is that you include their ‘about the author’ information, that generally includes a link to their web site or web page.

What can you do with free articles?

1. Introduce new ideas to your visitors.

2. Show points of view you agree with, or disagree with, to stimulate discussion.

3. Elaborate on topics that are not the central focus of your site or blog.

4. Introduce your visitors to experts in the field.

5. Establish your own expertise through your selection of good article

6. Review the article and publish a link to the full article.

You can get free articles through an article syndicator, such as isnare. com They have tens of thousands of free articles on almost any topic you can think of. Some of them are very, very good. Some – not so much. But in a few minutes reading, chances are good you can find at least one article that will really interest you – and your website visitors. Or you may find dozens – or hundreds – of articles, that you can use for a long time to come.

Yes, it could be that other websites will be hosting the same article. But the web is a huge place, and your visitors are interested in the unique collection of information that you provide to them. The information is valuable not only for what it says, but also for where it is located and what else it is associated with.

If you are concerned about your visitors clicking on a link and leaving your website, consider having the author’s link open in a new browser window. That way when they finish reading the article, they can close the window and they will still be on your site.

It is surprising how much free content is out there. When you start looking through article directories, you may find a lot of useful information to enhance your website, including ideas that you have never thought of. Read five articles at random, and see if you don’t learn something useful. Now imagine your own web visitors having this same experience, only with articles you have hand-selected for their interest and usefulness.

At some point you might want to write your own free articles to bring new traffic to your website. But that topics is the subject for another article.

Try some free content today. I think you will be pleased at the quality and usefulness of many of the free articles that are available to you today.

The 7 deadly barriers to success

You want to start up a business on the Internet but it hasn’t happened. What can you do to put yourself on the journey to success?

You can identify what is stopping you and take steps to overcome these common but deadly barriers…

(1)Lack of Goals

If you sit down at your computer with the Internet connected with no goals, it is likely you will end up surfing without a purpose. This is very time consuming.

Decide what you want to achieve, make it as specific as possible and plaster copies of them all over your home so you can’t fail to read them at least 5 times a day.

Your mind will start to believe them and if you take active steps to achieve them – they will not be out of your reach.

(2)Lack of Money

Okay for some people this will be a genuine factor but for the majority of us, there is a vice or an activity we can give up, like smoking, the odd bottle of wine or an aerobics class.

Most of us will be able to find something to give up or cut down on for the few months it takes to get started.

The Internet provides so many free resources and is the cheapest way to start a business these days so buckle down the purses or give up a vice and join the ride.

(3)No Research

This is a most deadly barrier. Because you might think you have a idea for a product but unless you are absolutely sure there is a market for it, you have no assurances of success.

If you have a list you can ask them for their opinions. Or go onto to some of the many forums and ask for people’s opinions and test the water.

Don’t create a product and waste precious resources until you are sure there is a market. Even better create the product after you have investigated a market and know what they want.

(4)Scared of Failure

You’ve probably heard it before but do you think Einstein got it right first time? Do you think any inventor gets it right first time?

I’m sure it takes 100s and even 1000s of attempts in some cases before its “Eureka”. Failures happen to be learnt from so don’t be afraid of them or give up when one occurs.

Sit down, learn your lessons and get on with your next plan of action with your head held high.

(5)Information Overload

I know all about this one! You get so many ideas and ways of marketing in your head, they all merge, make your mind utterly confused and you can’t even think of one straight idea.

The solution to this is to try one thing at a time. Test its success and if it doesn’t work, move on. And when you find something that’s works, stick to and master it.

Then you can go onto try something else but only if you want to. Its better to be excellent at one thing, then not very good at lots of things.

Also you could try choosing one or two ‘gurus’ to follow. You can copy their roads to success as long as it is in your own words.

(6)Procrastination

This is the one thing NOT to become a master at! Tomorrow never comes. Don’t put off things you can to today. Do something every day to bring you closer to your goals.

I know the soaps and TV in general can be very entertaining but imagine what you can achieve if you spent that time making substantial amounts of money on the Internet. The possibilities have no limits.

(7)Other People’s Views

Whether its your partner, boss, kids, friends, neighbours, acquaintances, whoever – do not let them put you down. If you want to succeed, its down to you and you alone.

Keep that one mindedness and don’t budge from it, whatever the daily grind throws at you. You can success and you will.

Live the life you want to. If you want to work from 9 to 5 and are happy, then so be it. However, if that is not case, it’s up to you to do something about it. Today, the Internet is your oyster, so get out there and find the pearls.

The many different types of dvd burning hardware

Removable media have been part of personal computers since the dawn of the industry, ranging from punch cards, to tape cassette drives, to floppy disk drives and more. One of the forefronts of removable media now is the optical drive; the industry standard optical drive in today's market is the DVD burner, which has more or less supplanted the CD-burner in the market place.

DVD-burners come in a variety of makes and models, and hardware specifications; all aimed (more or less) at the same market niche: People who need to back up large amounts of data for posterity. Like CD-burners before them, DVD-burners have become something of a commodity item in computer hardware.

If you're looking at getting a DVD-burner, the best option is almost always replacing an existing CD-ROM drive. If your computer is so old that it doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, it probably can't use a DVD-burner in any case.

DVD-burners that go inside the case (internal mountings) use the E-IDE interface or the ATAPI interface. A very few use Serial ATA, for higher end DVD drives. Ones that mount externally connect to the computer through either the serial port or the USB port - external DVD-burners are most often attached as temporary fixes to laptop computers to make a backup of critical files, rather than considered part of the permanent equipment of the computer.

There are three broad standards of DVD-burner. DVD-R (which record on write-once DVDs) which are suitable for archival data, DVD+RW and DVD-RW, which are two incompatible standards for DVDs that can be written and added to after the initial write action. (While the two consortiums that set up the standards made incompatible standards, the hardware vendors have made combo drives that read and write both of them. In general, you'll want a drive with "dual format" DVD RW drives.)

For non-computer applications, like digital camcorders with "direct to DVD" recording, the camcorder has a built in DVD-R drive and burns the movie to the disk as it clears the digital buffer. Likewise, the DVD recorders that you can hook up to your television tend to be DVD-Rs.

The primary reason to take a DVD-R over a DVD-RW (or DVD+RW) device is the cost of the media - read-write capable DVDs are about five times the price of write-once devices. All of the hardware in question costs around $30 to $50, and can be installed on a computer by anyone who's comfortable with a screwdriver.

Organic landscaping techniques

Many people are becoming more interested in using landscape tactics that do not harm the earth. In addition to being great for the environment, organic landscaping can also provide benefits for your wallet and for your health. One of the most alarming things to many people is the fact that some pesticides and fertilizers can harm their children. When you have children or grandchildren, it seems kind of a waste if they cannot play on the lawn because there is fertilizer all over it. Likewise, the improper use of pesticides, or sometimes even the proper use of these chemicals, can result in sickness. Another benefit of organic gardening can also be felt in the wallet. If you make use of the resources that you have at hand, you can actually save money with do-it-yourself organic landscaping, rather than paying money for chemicals to unnaturally enhance your plants.

One of the best ways to practice organic landscape is to make use of native plants. It is much easier to naturally promote the health of your landscape when the plants you use thrive in your area. Bringing in exotic plants or non-native plants from areas with very different conditions only results in frustration and the possible reliance on chemicals to help you take care of them. If you want to keep a landscape that works with the natural setting, native plants, or plants from areas with similar conditions, can help you accomplish this.

The lawn is most often the most visible part of a landscape. It seems as though many people thing it is necessary to use a great deal of chemicals to keep pests from ruining the lawn or to help the lawn grow well. The truth, however, is that by actively caring for the soil in your lawn as well as the grass, you can create a healthier lawn. This can be done in a number of ways that do not involve chemicals that can be harmful to the environment and to your health.

One of these ways is the use of organic fertilizer. There are compositions of fertilizer made entirely of organic materials. These fertilizers do cost more up front, but as they are used regularly reduce long run costs. The decrease the need for chemicals that can become expensive (and if applied wrong can actually damage you lawn more than help it), and they do not need to be applied as often. So, the cost often evens out eventually, as you have to apply the synthetic fertilizer much more often.

Another way to take care of the lawn is to use practices that promote healthy soil and better grass roots. One of these practices is aeration. Aeration relieves soil compaction by punching holes in the ground. This helps by making the soil easier to go through. This means that the roots have more room to go deeper, and organisms, like earthworms, that actually help the health of your grass, have more room to move about and make their homes. This results in naturally healthy grass that withstands pests better and keeps weeds out on its own.

Top dressing and over seeding are other organic practices that improve the health of the lawn. Top dressing is the act of taking composted organic matter and mixing it half and half with sand. A thin layer is then spread over the lawn. This actually improves the lawn rooting, creating healthier, hardier grass, without fertilizer. Over seeding is a method that makes use of more than the recommended amount of grass seed — about one and a half times more than the recommended amount. Over seeding promotes quicker germination and results in a thicker lawn that fights weeds.

Fertilizer, organic or otherwise, is not even necessary if you practice common sense in using organic gardening techniques. You can even create your own compost and mulch by using grass clippings from the lawn mower and leftovers from the garden. Raked leaves and pine needles and weeds can also be used. By leaving them to decompose, you are creating nutrient-rich organic matter than can be used to, in turn, improve the health of all the plants in your landscape, not just grass. Organic gardening can be a very rewarding and money saving effort when you do it yourself.

Fishing with gps

In this day and age, you would be hard pressed to find a fishing boat without some sort of fish finding device. GPS devices have become the latest in technology and water safety when it comes to fishing. They are used as a means of navigation and a way to mark your spot so that you can find it again in the future.

A GPS is a Global Positioning System that is made primarily for navigational purposes. They work off a network of satellites that are placed into orbit by the United States Government. The best part about a GPS system is that because they operate off satellite, they can be used in any weather conditions at any hour of the day.

The satellites will circle the earth twice during the day and transmit signal information to Earth. The signals can then be used to calculate the user's exact location by implementing triangulation and pinpointing exact spots. Triangulation means that the GPS receiver must be locked into three spots before a calculation of longitude and latitude can be displayed. After the satellites have mapped the location, the GPS can narrow in on other satellites for useful information such as speed, track, trip distance, destination distance and sunrise or sunset times.

The accuracy of the GPS system is very acute because of the multi-channel designs that are available. A GPS will lock onto a satellite and maintain that lock through one of their channels. A GPS fish finder is accurate up to fifteen meters while the newer models increase in accuracy up to three meters.

There are many benefits to investing in a GPS and people are using GPS more regularly and relying on them more than the more traditional ways of navigation such as maps and charts. If you have plot points that you have saved on a GPS, you may be able to save time and frustration on the open seas by going directly to the location that had the fish the last time you went out. Another advantage to the GPS is that it can detect hot fishing spots that may not be detected by older maps or charts. In addition, if you find a perfect fishing spot, you can share it with a friend when you go fishing on another boat.

GPS systems are also a great safety tool when you are out on the water. Many times, especially if there are many people socializing on a boat, it can be easy to lose concentration. People will easily be turned around or lost and a GPS is an easy tool to use to find your way back home. You can also use a GPS system if there is unexpected bad weather such as fog or heavy rain. GPS systems are also equipped with mapping software that makes it easier to find a dock. The GPS is so accurate that it is able to communicate exact positions to the Coast Guard or rescue crew if an emergency arises.

You can purchase a handheld GPS online or at your local marine or boating store. Ask a salesperson to help explain the different features and costs for the varying models. If you decide to purchase your boat from a dealer, you will need a built-in GPS. Your local boat supplier will be able to give you a reference to someone who can properly install your electronics.

You should never rely on just one navigation tool when you are fishing. A GPS seems to cover all of the bases, but it is still a computerized tool. You should always be proactive about your safety and always have marine maps and charts onboard at all times. You should also have a handheld radio handy in case of emergencies.

Rebates From your eye doctors

Many times your eye doctor will have special rebate deals available. Many companies send eye doctors these rebates to promote their product. These can be anywhere from $20 on up depending on the brand. Just ask your eye doctor for information on rebates that they have received. This can be a great way to reduce the expense.

There are many eyewear retail stores out there that sale glasses and contacts. Many times these stores will have sales on their products. All you need is your prescription and many times they have an eye doctor on staff that can give you a prescription after they examine your eyes. Check with them to see what is out there.

If you can’t get insurance there are discount plans that can give you discounts on your contact lenses. These are also inexpensive and can often be bought along with a dental plan.

Finding a good deal on contacts isn’t rocket science. Use these tips and your common sense and it will be easy to find the best deals without spending too much money.

Hotels how to get free gifts

Planning to visit Las Vegas or any other vacational resort where casinos are a major portion of their business? I have just the thing for you. Here, I will show you how to pass off as a High Roller and collect many complimentary items and gifts.

What is the Secret?

The Secret is that you have to make them believe you are rich and love gambling. In short you have to impersonate a High Roller.

Why?

Hotels love high rollers because these players leave behind thousands of dollars each visit. And the real cool part about this is that if you act the role, casinos will lavish you with the same gifts and complimentary items that a real High Roller would receive.

How ?

It is not that difficult to fool the hotel and resorts with some finesse and true self-confidence. It can be done.

1) The Way you Dress:

Elegant and smart is the way to go. Opt out of the baseball cap, t-shirt and jeans. Try and wear a suit or at least a regular buttoned shirt with an elegant dark jacket. It was Shakespeare who said that the clothes maketh a man, and so too, when going to a hotel resort. They judge you according to how you dress, so dress according to the role.

2) A Large Pad of Notes:

Yes. Just like in the movies. Carry a large bundle of notes with you and keep them in plain sight. You do not have to really take with you that much. Instead, take a few notes and place them at the top and at the bottom of real note-size paper cuttings. Just remember to never expose this while you are in the casino. Use other notes you’re your wallet instead. But do it nonchalantly so that none of the casino personnel will notice.

3) Always Flash Your Notes Around: No matter where you go, whether its to the hotel restaurant for lunch or for to the bar. They will be watching. From time to time, use that money to play at a range of table games or video game and bet some of that money. Remember you must use some of your money to play but just do not use all of it.

4) Play Complicated Games:

This is one of the more problematic things to do and requires some training at home. Learn on your own how to lay and how to bet on the high rolling games such as roulette, baccarat and craps. You could also play poker or Texas holdem in one of the larger ante tables, but in any case stick to your plan and you will soon reap the flowers.

Conclusion:

Above, I have outlined some of the more practical methods by which one can save money by receiving gifts from the casino. These gifts range from casino comps (free money to play), room deals that can get nearly free and many others such as free drinks, clothes, coupon to stores in Las Vegas and many more. Note that what you are doing here is completely legal provided you don't take up a false name or falsify your passport card.

Where to drive to avoid speeding tickets

You don't want to get a speeding ticket, do you and you are a bit nervous about having a radar detector in case it isn't legal? Well, here's a novel alternative to driving slowly, buying a radar detector, or just getting tickets.

Go and live somewhere else. You see there is quite a variation in the speed limits in different states in the USA, and in different countries.

Total freedom does not exist. Even in the Northern Territory of Australia they have fallen foul of some erroneous data to impose speed limits on the longest fast road in the state - until recently there were no limits except in towns. You can get a speeding ticket almost anywhere.

In Germany, there are some autobahns without speed limits, but the norm is 80 mph, and almost all German cars have limiters to prevent them going over 155 mph. In Italy, there are speed limits, but in many places you can speed without too much trouble.

But what about in the USA? The thing is to move to a state with a 75 mph speed limit. That means you should be safe to 80 mph – but go too fast and you are still in danger of getting a ticket. In some states, they even use helicopters to find speedsters, which can hardly be cost-effective.

States with higher speed limits

According to my latest information these are the states with 75 mph speed limits:

Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma , South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

Hurrah for them! Quite a few, but maybe not exactly where you want to live. Well, the second rank are the states with 70 mph limits – the same as in the UK. There are quite a number giving you more choice:

Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and West Virginia

That's 33 of the US states allow you to drive at 70 mph or higher.

Maybe those places don't appeal, and I must admit that the situation could easily change as oil becomes scarcer and more expensive – expect that to happen soon. Remember, it was the first energy crisis that brought blanket speed limits on freeways and expressways and motorways in the first place. In the UK the government said the limit of 70 mph was temporary. Now, with cars being so much safer than they were then it is clear that that limit, and the old 55 mph limit in the USA is well out of date.

However, speed limits generally may fall again in the next five years.

To help you keep out of trouble you need to:

Know the speed limit wherever you are driving – not too easy with the way limits change every few hundred yards on some roads, and when you change from one state to the other;

Concentrate on your driving, and don't accidentally keep going faster and faster on a straight boring road without knowing it;

Watch for any signs of speed traps;

Drive on the center lane on highways;

If legal, buy a radar and laser detector, or at least a device that tells you where the speed traps are.

You can still find places where you can drive fast and safely but a device that warns you of speed traps, which can bring those speeding tickets is a good idea.

John Hartley is editor of endspeedingtickets. com, a website designed ti help you avoid speeding tickets. He has written from many of the world's top auto magazines, and has written many books about cars and the auto industry, including 'Suspension and Steering Q&A' and 'The Electronics Revolution in the Motor Industry'.

Pruйbalo y veras!

Help writing your english lesson plan

Being in a teacher is a lot of fun and is the passion of many, but preparing for each classroom experience can be quite frustrating. Ensuring that your English lesson plan is well rounded and will get the important messages across to the students is difficult and it requires a lot of experience to get it just right. Most educators will develop a system over time that will help them prepare for each class, but even then, sometimes teachers just need to take a load off and relax. How can teachers do this?

Instead of writing your English lesson plan every day you can find resources and programs that will allow you to simply teach from a pre-planned script. While you probably wouldn’t want to do this every day, it can be a nice diversion to have someone else do the work every once and again. Many educators use these resources to get new ideas about how they can teach certain aspects of the language or more creative ways to teach so that their students develop a passion for the language as well. When teachers use the resources available to them they can remember the passion they have for the subject which is then passed onto their students.

Writing an English lesson plan day in and day out can be difficult, so every now and then teachers deserve to take a break. The problem is that it can be hard to find prepared classes that give the quality of the information that the educator would expect. While it is nice to have such resources to fall back on it is hard for the educator to give themselves permission to use such resources when the quality of the information is inferior. For this reason, educators should attempt to use programs that are written for this express purpose. In fact using programs that are written for teachers by teachers are usually the best because they provide the best information in a way that it can be used in every classroom.

Most educators usually hear about products and programs that are said to help with the planning processes that are a part of their job. It can be frustrating to check out each of them because there are so many programs and products that just do not work as planned. That being said, there are still some products out there that can enrich the classroom experience.

Car finance loans do vary greatly so take a specialists advice

The amount of interest that is put onto car finance loans can vary greatly from lender to lender and unless you know where to look for the cheapest rates of interest then you simply wont be getting the best rates possible and so could be paying a lot more over the term of the loan than you should.

A specialist will be able to find the cheapest car finance loans and the best deals which have no hidden charges within them that could end up adding yet more money onto the loan if you should be lucky enough to be able to pay it off early. The term APR is one of the most confusing and unless great care is taken you could be left paying a lot more for your loan than you thought. Some lenders quotes APR weekly so this of course seems like a great deal, however when the APR is taken into account for the whole year it adds up to a lot.

If you put your car finance loan into the hands of a specialist car finance broker then they will be able to take advantage of any zero or low rates of interest for you which is something that you yourself might not be able to dig out or are unaware of. However you have to check for any additional charges or interest rates jumping up after a set period of time.

The specialist will also be aware and remember to compare loans of the same type, for instance there are fixed rate loans and variable rates and this can be something which is overlooked when shopping around yourself. Car finance loans do vary greatly so it is imperative that you do take a specialist’s advice if you want to make sure that you have compared the best on the market.

Real magic beyond harry potter

Real Magic: Beyond Harry Potter

Harry Potter has been all over the news these days, due to the launch of the 7th Harry Potter book and the 5th Harry Potter movie. It's certainly no accident that the 5th movie "Order of the Phoenix" came out a week before the 7th book "Deathly Hallows".

It seems to have been such a great success, and has worked all the Harry Potter fans into a frenzy!

There is even a lot of controversy from fundamentalist Christian groups around the fact that these books & movies promote witchcraft and sorcery.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the Harry Potter series doesn't nearly do justice to promoting witchcraft and sorcery. It is after-all fiction, and the aspects of using magic are highly over-dramatized compared to the results of REAL witchcraft and sorcery.

However, the concerns are founded, as many of these Harry Potter fans will and probably are seeking out the real forms of magic use. I think this is a great thing, as much of the fear of witchcraft is based on ignorance, and not the truth of what it really is.

Modern day REAL witches and Sorcerers are people who generally embrace multiculturalism and seek to learn answers to their spiritual questions where-ever answers can be found. These days there are also plenty of New Age spiritualists to learn from that are skilled in witchcraft, yoga, meditation, and psychology.

There is also a growing trend outside of the Harry Potter movement that is cluing into what is called the "Law of Attraction". This "Law of Attraction" when understood and implemented correctly, is definitely a form of magic in my books.

What probably comes absolutely closest in the real world to Harry Potter style magic, is psychic ability. There are psychics all over the world, and it is known to be a skill that can be learned by anyone who studies it diligently. Yes, you are psychic too, although you may not have tapped into your psychic abilities yet.

Many of the psychics today can be found practicing various forms of meditation, yoga, shamanism, and other types of pagan religions.

I must admit that I am glad to see a resurgence of paganism and wisdom of other religions. I think the future holds a fusion hybrid understanding of how the world works, and a greater ability for humans to tap into their psychic ability due to the understandings that each world culture has contributed.

I'm hoping that all those Harry Potter fans will seek to attain magical abilities themselves, and in doing so help to positively change the world with their newfound powers. So I choose to celebrate the Harry Potter movies, the 7 Harry Potter books, and I encourage Harry Potter fans to continue their quest for knowledge, wisdom, and Magic beyond fiction.

Acne and vitamin supplements

Since the majority of the worlds population suffer from acne at some point in their lives, there is no surprise that such efforts are invested in finding out how to it. While there have been some definitive answers on whether acne is hormonally induced (yes), and what can be done to prevent it (prescription drugs, certain herbal remedies, etc), there are still many unknown factors that cause acne.

However, of all the many acne questions that science is yet to find answers to, the most controversial is whether or not diet has an effect on acne.

Historically, diet was thought to be linked to acne. Doctors and housewives alike believed that a high fat content in ones diet would cause an oilier complexion, and this in turn would create acne breakouts.

However, as time went on, science found no directly link between a diet high in lipids (fat), and acne. Since acne is caused by a bacterial growth in sebum trapped in clogged pores, there is no such thing as “extra oil secretion”. So, for at least the last 15 years, western medicine has claimed there is no connection between diet and acne.

However, a study conducted in 1997 has rekindled the flame in the “diet causes acne” argument, and this time, with a bit more heat.

This study, conducted by Dr. Lit Hung Leung, states that Acne breakouts are because the body cannot create enough of Coenzyme A to break down the fatty acids that create sebum. The reason is, Coenzyme A is probably the single most needed enzyme in the body. This Coenzyme-A is what synthesizes sex hormones, and what breaks down fatty acids.

The only part of Coenzyme-A that the body does not produce itself is vitamin B5. So, if there is a shortage of B5, there is a shortage of Coenzyme-A. And if there is a shortage of Coenzyme-A, the body will use it to synthesize sex hormones, not break down fatty acids.

So, you can see where this is going…more fatty acids, more sebum production, more acne.

Now, the interesting thing is that Dr. Lit Hung Leung substantiated this claim by testing it on 100 people. The group took 10 grams or more per day of pantothenic acid ( B5 ), and used a B5 topical cream of 20% by weight. After 2-3, sebum production was reduced, and many people with acne noticed a reduction. For those with more extreme acne, a higher dosage of B5 was used (approx. 15-20 grams per day), and treatment was prolonged to see an effect, sometimes up to 6 months.

So, while one study does not definitively prove whether B5 can prevent or reduce acne, it may well be worth considering, particularly for those who want a natural or herbal cure for acne, and do not want to use chemicals such as benzoyl peroxide, or other prescription acne treatments.

As with any medical treatment, it is best to consult a doctor before trying a B5 regimine.

Scholarship application tips

Applying for a scholarship is not just filling up an application form and hope that you get response. It should involve careful evaluation and understanding of the whole application process so as to get better chances of winning your most desired scholarship.

To help you on this, here are the tips that you should consider before and during your scholarship application:

·Begin your search early

Like plane seats, more options come during the early stage of application. In other words, if you begin your search early, you can have better chances of landing on the best scholarship awards possible. Think of it this way: if you only apply on the closing days, most scholarship grants are already awarded to those who apply early or most scholarship applications have already closed. On the other hand, if you search for scholarship early, you can find many sponsors that would certainly increase your chances in winning the scholarship.

·Apply early

If you begin your search early, you should also apply early. There is not a single day to waste since many students like you are also battling out to win the same scholarship. However, this does not mean that you apply every single grant you find. You still have to evaluate and…

·…Check your eligibility

There are countless of scholarship grants out there but there are only few that could fit you. To avoid the possible rejection of application, you should check if the scholarship grants and sponsors you are aiming at would fit your need. Read carefully the requirements since this is the best way to know if you are fit with the scholarship that is being offered.

·Prepare your requirements early

Never wait for your sponsors to ask for the requirements before you prepare for them. Take note that the sponsors work at a specified timeframes so if you run late on your filling of requirements, you may not get the scholarship.

·Create a good application letter

Just like applying writing for a job application letter, the scholarship application letter should show that you are the person to be awarded with the scholarship. Write a good application letter unique from others.

·Follow the instruction for writing the essay

Do not go beyond the boundaries of the length limit. Make sure to answer the questions carefully and sincerely. Use simple terms to keep your essay readable.

And finally, check, re-check, and double-check your requirements, essays, letters, and other supporting documents before submitting them to the sponsor.

Come summers and the fun begins

Summers always begin on the longest day of the year. Summers are the perfect days in which everyone can enjoy all the outdoor activities like swimming, taking trips to rocks, reading books while resting in hammock or any activity for that matter, which you had put to rest in winters.

Summer is the best time of the year in which your mood changes for the good. This is evident from the fact that people suffering from mood disorders throughout the winters start to feel nice. According to the scientists, mood disorders are linked with the hours of day as well as light. Researchers feel that the increase of Vitamin D in people, which arises mainly from the sun, affects the mood to a very great extent.

General beliefs of the people are that mood changes in summers mainly due to the fun and leisure activities, since most of the people go for vacations. In many countries many industries and towns are shut down in August because of severe heat. August is the month that showers severe heat. This makes people confined to their homes close to their air conditioners.

It is important to stay back at homes because of the fact that summers are the season when one is prone to dehydration and heat strokes. They are very serious problems about which people should take care. It is advisable to consume a lot of water while indulging in the outdoor activities to keep the body and its temperature cool. Water is the best solution to avoid these problems.

It is sensible to carry sunscreen whenever going outside in summers to avoid the sun burns. Overexposure to sun can lead to sunburns and various types of skin cancers. Recently, experts quoted that sun is good for health and good source for Vitamin D, but in limited form.

If this conflicting information confuses you then practice moderation. It is not a serious problem to get little sun and suntan but a heavy tan can land you in trouble. To avoid suntans sunscreen is the best medicine that would make you feel better. Children should be paid more attention to as they have very sensitive and delicate skin. Sunburns should be avoided on their skin by feeding them with loads of fluids and water. Because of their small size, it takes much less time for them to get dehydrated, especially in summers. It is wise to restrict their outdoors activities to the early morning and evening hours, as that is the time they have a lesser chance of getting sunburns as compared to other hours of the day.

Express yourself... through blogs

Picture these three scenarios:

You are at a costume party in a room full of strangers. You are dressed as an 18th Century dandy; you've studied the mannerisms, have affected the perfect accent and you charm every partygoer you meet. Beneath the facade, outside the realm of this party you may be a banker, a steel worker or an unemployed poet but here and now you are Monsieur Baudelaire, the fop who speaks of temperament and style as the be-all and end-all of a meaningful existence.

You are at work where you are always the no-nonsense professional, respected by peers and underlings and depended upon by your manager to perform your tasks with skill, technical proficiency and a pleasant demeanor -- an expectation that is hardly ever unmet.

You are at an informal get together with family, close friends and neighbors; you talk about sports, literature and fashion with people who know you and who understand your opinions, your quirks and your few flaws -- there is no facade, no pretense, you are unabashedly you!

These scenarios that represent three versions of you in the real world are also three (of many) approaches you can take to presenting yourself to your readers in the virtual world, through your blog: as a character of your creation, as the professional at whatever you do, or as the real, unadulterated you, complete with flaws. Your blog and your blogger persona are your creations and are limited only by your choices. Consider also that whatever it is you write, in whatever form, even if it is spoof or satire, it will be considered by your readers as an expression of your true feelings.

People express themselves in many ways and for a growing number of people the need for some sort of public expression of thoughts, feelings, style or creative expression is filled by blogging. Expressing your thoughts in written words, however, is not as simple a task as it may seem to be; many people, in fact, find that it can take hours to accurately transfer the most seemingly simple thoughts to the written word. Thoughts and feelings do not require the organization or structure that is required by the expression of those thoughts and feelings.

Some things that make the task of expressing yourself through your writing much easier are improving your grammar, improving your vocabulary and practice, practice, practice.

Grammar! As a rule you should always write to your audience -- they are the ones who need to understand you. Perfection may be necessary when you are writing for an audience of scholars and grammarians who require it but, regardless of your audience, the better your grammar the better you will be understood and the easier it will be for you to transfer those thoughts to paper. There are literally hundreds of English grammar guides available online and very reasonable English grammar guides available in bookstores; good grammar is a tool you will never regret learning to use.

Vocabulary! Finding the right words to express your thoughts is much easier when you have more words in your armory to choose from. You may be tempted to learn some suitably obscure words to impress your readership but too much of that will only confuse them and turn them away from your writing. Research has shown that the average adult in the U. S. reads at an eighth-grade level so arming yourself with a recondite vocabulary will not be helpful (nor was our reference to a 'recondite vocabulary' unless you knew that recondite means “difficult to understand”). Arm yourself, instead, with a good dictionary/thesaurus.

Write Often! Practice makes perfect or, to be honest, it at least helps you approach perfection. Try to make a meaningful entry in your blog every day, that may not always be possible but do try! Two of the wonderful things about blogging are its flexibility and availability -- your blog will always be there (baring computer problems) when you need it and you'll find that the more you write, the easier it will be to write. Keep in mind, however, that even a professional writer who writes for hours every day is seldom completely satisfied that the words that came out adequately express the thought that went in so don't allow yourself to get too frustrated, take a short break and then try again.

Titleist drivers - how to find the best one for your game

Titleist drivers are among the most popular drivers being played among golfers today, both on and off the PGA tour. Very simply, these drivers are known for being very straight and long, and you certainly couldn’t go wrong with purchasing a Titleist driver for your next club.

Titleist is one of the most famous and recognizable golf manufactures in the world. From Titleist Golf Clubs, Titleist Fairway Woods, Titleist Golf Irons, Titleist Golf Wedges, putters, balls, tees, hats, shirts, bags, etc, you can find anything you want made by Titleist. Along with companies such as Nike, Callaway, and a few others, they are one o the leaders in the golf industry.

Obviously, as opposed to a lesser known brand, you will have to shell out quite a bit of money for a Titleist driver, particularly a new one. However, if you are an avid golfer and serious about improving your game, the extra investment very well could be worth it.

Of course, Titleist offers quite a few different driver models, and therefore it’s not as simple as going down to the store and choosing any one to pay. Titleist Drivers are made in all different sizes, club shaft flex levels, etc, and you will need to choose the best one to fit your game. Here is some important information to keep in mind when trying to choose the right one for your game.

First of all, one of the most popular Titleist Drivers is known as the Titleist 907 D2 driver. This also includes the D1 as well, which is a slight variation of this brand. This is a large headed 460cc driver, and contains a very significant amount of inertia which gives the club increased distance and also a high forgiveness level-excellent for players with higher handicaps.

This club also has a higher MOI, which essentially describes how much the club resist to twisting. With a high MOI, you can hit the ball much farther, and the 907 D1 and D2 certainly contains this feature. The club comes at a price of about $500, and if you are a serious golfer, this would certainly make an excellent choice for you.

The next up is the Titleist Pro Titanium 905R and S models. These clubs contain a very high launch and low spin ratio in order to achieve maximum distance off the tee.

This is also a 460cc driver that contains a shallower club face in order to achieve the highest level of ball speed, launch angel, forgiveness, etc. In fact, it contains one of the biggest sweet spots out of any driver on the market today. Theses are sold at $400, and while they offer slightly less quality than their D2 and D2 counterparts, are certainly still very high quality.

The bottom line is, no matter whether you are a beginning, amateur or professional golfer, Titleist offers a model that will fit your needs. The best way to find out which is best is to take a short trip down to your local driving range and test out each one before purchasing to find out which one you like best.

Remember, the driver is one of the most important clubs in the bag because you will be hitting it so often; this makes it imperative to take your time and find the best one before purchasing. Hopefully this information will give you some guidelines as to which Titleist drivers one to invest with and start improving your game immediately.
